Patients that have trouble breathing (also known as nasal obstruction) may benefit from our gentle, internal nasal treatments. When conservative medical treatments don’t work, surgical intervention can greatly improve breathing. Nasal obstruction is often the result of more than one cause, and a thorough discussion and examination helps clarify the cause and gives the patient peace of mind and the answers they have been seeking for months or years.
At Refine Facial Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics in Nashville, we offer some of the most advanced sinus and nasal treatments available today. These treatments include_once balloon sinuplasty, CT image guidance navigation, and nonsurgical Aerin radiofrequency nasal decongestion.
Our focus on facial procedures ensures unparalleled patient safety, comfort, and care. We even offer a new minimally invasive treatment, called ClariFix, designed to offer permanent relief for patients with allergic and non-allergic rhinitis (also known as a runny nose). Some patients with nasal congestion can also suffer from acute or chronic sinus problems, where the paranasal sinuses drain into the nose. If your medication and allergy treatments just aren’t enough, a sinus procedure, such as endoscopic sinus surgery, balloon sinus dilation (balloon sinuplasty), or radiofrequency (RF) therapy can help offer lasting, everyday relief.
For patients with a deviated nasal septum, a surgical procedure called septoplasty can be performed. This will gently straighten out the septum from the inside and allow for better breathing. Septoplasty is performed for functional, rather than cosmetic purposes.
Because of this, it is typically considered medically necessary. There are many different types of deviated nasal septum treatments. Dr. Bryant is the first ENT in Tennessee to use a newly developed balloon dilation system to gently reposition your nasal septum without cutting away tissue or placing sutures. No nasal packing is performed. In other cases, patients require an open rhinoplasty approach. Like our other internal nasal treatments, many septoplasty procedures can be performed in our office, using only local anesthesia.
Since these treatments take place inside the nose, they cause minimal-to-no change in the outward appearance of the nose. If you’re also interested in cosmetic refinements, you can choose to undergo rhinoplasty at the same time as functional surgery. Having a rhinoplasty done at the same time as your septoplasty in Nashville may improve your overall outcome and keep you from needing to recover from nasal surgery two separate times.
Because they affect breathing, an essential function of the human body, it is in many cases considered medically necessary to improve a patient’s quality of life. Coverage may vary based on the patient’s selected insurance plan. For specific questions regarding what an insurance plan covers, deductibles, and more, it is in each patient’s best interest to direct these questions to their insurance carrier. Our billing department may bill the insurance carrier directly for services rendered. Any out-of-pocket costs are the responsibility of the patient.
At your consultation, you may meet with a member of our financial department.
This provides you with a full cost breakdown for the nasal procedure, sinus procedure, or septoplasty in Nashville, so that you know what to expect before having the procedure done. In the rare event that insurance does not cover the procedure, such as for patients that are solely interested in the cosmetic correction of an unsightly nose, we have special financing available through Care Credit and Bankworthy Technology that you may take advantage of. For more information, we invite you to schedule a private consultation at Refine Facial Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics. It is our pleasure to answer your questions so you can make the right decision with confidence.
Depending on your personal preference, these procedures can typically be performed in our office treatment room, or at a nearby surgical center, using light sedation and local anesthesia. Dr. Bryant partners with six surgical centers across the Nashville metropolitan area, including Gallatin, Lebanon, Mt Juliet, and Hermitage, Tennessee.
Before your procedure, you’ll meet with Dr. Bryant and his surgical care coordinator. We start by identifying the true cause of the congestion to ensure the best possible outcome. Common causes of nasal congestion often include_once one or more of the following: allergies, rhinitis, deviated septum, turbinate hypertrophy, nasal valve collapse, nasal fracture (broken nose), and sinusitis.
Based on your diagnosis, your personal treatment plan will be reviewed and you’ll be provided with all preoperative and postoperative instructions — as well as medication, if applicable. The most important part of the process is the consultation. This is when you have an opportunity to discuss all your questions and concerns in detail with Dr. Bryant. He is pleased to walk you through all you need to know in order to decide if medical treatment or surgical intervention is the right choice for you.
Most patients who undergo septum surgery return to light social activity within one day to one week, depending on the treatments they receive. Swelling and bruising may occur following any surgery. Ice may be used under the direction of your surgeon to alleviate these symptoms. The downtime and time off work may vary based on the type and extent of surgery. Your physician will provide you with an aftercare sheet with simple instructions for tending to the area that has been treated. If your particular procedure requires the use of general anesthesia, a friend, family member, or aid must be present to drive you home from surgery. Other procedures do not require general anesthesia.
